It's been a tough week for me.

Truth is my Grandmother passed away. She was 92 years old. She lived a long beautiful life, but it's really been hitting me hard.

What I want to share with you is the big lesson that have come up over the last week:

My grandmother's service was held in this country church and it was just packed... standing room only.

And you know what?

Surprisingly, to us Pilates people we need to remember this...

Nobody talked about how strong her abs were, how toned her triceps were, or how flexible her hamstrings may be.

It was all about service, love, contribution and grace.

Life is busy.

Sometimes I secretly wish I could go back in time to myself, before I was a business owner, wife, mother, etc and whenever I said I was "sooooo busy and tired" I'd give myself a good smack on the head. LOL!

But the truth is, we all have the same amount of hours in a day and we have choices and decisions to make on how we spend our time.

I don't have a lot of time to myself these days but here is a short 90 second video on one of the ways I try to work in some self-care to my day.

I have been teaching Pilates for over 15 plus years.

In the beginning, my business consisted of over 30 private sessions per week with a very limited number classes. These sessions ranged from clients who came for a private once or twice/week, to clients who did one/month or every 3 months.

My mom was an exceptional woman.

She was charismatic, strong, funny, loving and the most organized person I've ever met.

She's been gone over 9 years now, tragically passing away from pancreatic cancer at the young age of 56, about 8 weeks after I opened Embody Pilates studio.

I always think about her, but being that Mother's Day is this weekend, I thought I'd share 3 lessons (of many) I learned from her.

1) Be Multidimensional.

My mom didn't really fit into any particular stereotype. For example, she could work tirelessly outside doing yardwork until she was covered in dirt and then an hour later, be formally dressed in diamonds and heels to attend an event.

It is also referred to as the "electric chair" but I assure you, it's not nearly as scary as it appears.

In fact, it is a super supportive piece that can assist you in your practice.
