Be grateful! Get outside and play

By Bonny-lynn

I am always fascinated on practices that successful people have.

The definition of success has nothing to do with accomplishments or monetary wealth, but I’m talking about people who are generally happy, peaceful, compassionate human beings, more often then not.

What’s their secret?

They do not seem to let stress, anxiety, worry get the best of them, despite the fact that they are a

being experiencing all the ups and downs that we all have.

What I have found is that these people practice Gratitude on a daily basis. They make a habit of focusing on what is good in their lives daily, not just on Thanksgiving holidays.

Even during the most difficult days or stressful situations, there is always something to be grateful for. There are numerous studies that prove that keeping a gratitude journal can increase happiness and lower stress levels.

You can even download free apps on your phone to remind you to pause daily and write down what you are grateful for. It’s an excellent habit to get into and makes Thanksgiving last all year round.

I am very thankful to live in Canmore, where each day I am surrounded by the beauty of nature. It doesn’t matter if I’m having a tough day, I’m always in awe by the beauty of the mountains.

So, we thought it would be fun to take a mat class outdoors. Joseph Pilates was a big advocate of getting outside, breathing fresh air, and surrounding yourself with nature.

“By all means never fail to get all the sunshine and fresh air that you can,” -Joseph Pilates, Return to Life, 1945

So homework this week, is to start (or continue) a gratitude practice. A good start is to get outdoors and play.

Go for a walk, fly a kite, or better yet, do some Pilates outside. You’ll be uplifted and have so much to be grateful for.
